Schellschlicht Hike Trail Notes

Intro

This is a spring to fall hike in the Bavarian Alps near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The summit is just over 2000 meters and directly across from Zugspitze, offering breathtaking views of beautiful Garmisch-Partenkirchen extending to Austria as part of the Ammergau Alps.

How to Arrive {#arrival}

There is a parking lot at the trailhead available for those driving. The location is also accessible via public transport using train RB 60 from Munich, making it a convenient day trip from the city.

Parking Tips

  • Arrive early on weekends as parking fills quickly
  • The lot is free but limited in capacity
  • Alternative parking available in nearby Oberammergau

Equipment and Technical Challenges {#equipment}

  • Sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support
  • Trekking poles for steep sections
  • Layered clothing for changing mountain weather
  • 2-3 liters of water
  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)
